From north London it is a straight run up the A1(M) — half an hour from the North Circular outside rush hour, and often less from Barnet, Potters Bar or Enfield.

The reason people make it is usually the same one. In London a massage happens in a room off a busy street, you arrive to a waiting area with other people in it, and the whole thing is booked to the minute. Here you turn off a country lane into dedicated bays signed for the spa, and nobody is waiting for the room after you.

It is also, frankly, cheaper than the London equivalent, and it has been in the same hands since the 1990s. Neither of those is true of much in the city.

Not close enough to walk. We are on the Codicote Road out between Welwyn and Codicote rather than in a town, so people coming from London drive, or train to Welwyn and take a taxi to AL6 9TY.
