Bedfordshire is our second county. A good number of the people who come regularly are driving down the A1 from Bedford or across the A505 from Luton, and once you know the route it stops being a journey and becomes a habit.

From Luton it is about half an hour east — the A505 or the lanes through Hertfordshire, either is fine. From Bedford it is a straight forty-five minutes down the A1, which becomes the A1(M), and off at Junction 6 at Welwyn. Dunstable, Biggleswade, Ampthill and Leighton Buzzard all feed into one or other of those.

People make the drive because there is not much like us closer to home. We are small, we have been on the Codicote Road since 2005, and the therapists stay for years rather than months. That is difficult to find anywhere, and particularly difficult to find within an hour of Bedford.

About half an hour from Luton and around forty-five minutes from Bedford, both of them straightforward runs on the A505 or the A1.

Which part of Bedfordshire do most people drive from?

Mostly the A1 corridor — Biggleswade, Sandy, Bedford itself. That side of the county is a straight run down to Junction 6 of the A1(M), which is why the drive is easier than the map makes it look.
